Music is a stream of spirit and power.
It can penetrate even the hardest of hearts.
Music defines generations, eras, and cultures.
It can calm a restless infant or call a nation to battle.
Above all, music is a gift.
I take my role in music very seriously, as though I am a caretaker or steward of this gift. This is the motivation behind all that I do. I take great joy and purpose in helping talented people find their true identity as artists.
I was born and raised in beautiful Syracuse, New York. Me being the youngest of five, I was born into a family comprised entirely of singers and musicians. From the time I was five years old I received classical training, playing piano, violin, viola, and trumpet (at least until my front teeth fell out). Throughout my growing-up years I played in stage bands and orchestras, and I sang in choirs and chamber groups. I attended college in Nashville, Tennessee, playing and touring with the school's top 40 recruiting band, as well as playing in a variety of clubs with a band of my own. The spark that launched the beginning to my professional stance in the music business took place when I began writing jingles for a Nashville ad agency. From there I started touring: first with Michael W. Smith and then with Amy Grant. Soon thereafter my brother-in-law, Chris Harris, and I started a production company in 1986 and began producing records soon after. In 1992 we started our own publishing company to manage our growing song catalogs.
Fast-forward through several years of songwriting and record production to the year of 1998: it was then that I began a developmental record label of my own called Gravity Records. Continuing to write songs and produce records for artists, such as dcTalk, Anointed, and Jaci Velazquez, I launched into artist development with the opening of the Gravity Records label. It was a busy time in my career.
In addition to developing various new artists during this time, in 2001 I began the journey of advancing into my own artistry, which culminated into a worship opera titled Vapor. The years since then have provided many opportunities to develop and empower artists, to do what I love, and to make an impact on the world through the art of music. Currently, in that same passion, I continue to write, produce, develop, mentor, and teach from my new home and recording studio in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
